There’s nothing quite like enjoying a good meal in your own little corner of the world, and with some of these restaurants, we mean that quite literally. These 20 restaurants are in some of the furthest, hard-to-reach places you can think of, but we promise the journey is worth it.

1. KOKS, Greenland

KOKS was a two-Michelin-starred restaurant located in Ilimanaq, Greenland. It features highly local dining off the edge of Baffin Bay, and was considered one of the most remote restaurants worldwide. Currently, KOKS is in search of a new location, so they’ve been closed for over a year. They hope to return in 2026.

2. The Rock Restaurant, Tanzania

This popular seafood restaurant is located in Zanzibar after the owner stumbled across a fisherman’s outpost out a way in the ocean. The restaurant opened in 2011 and features unparalleled views and tastes of the Indian Ocean.

3. Furneaux Lodge, New Zealand

Located in the Endeavour Inlet in the Marlborough Sounds, this restaurant can be accessed in one of three ways: by bike, boat, or helicopter. The restaurant is well-known for serving local, seasonal cuisine, and you can always stay the night in one of their many suites, cottages, or cabins.

4. Mil, Peru

Located 3,568 meters above sea level and next to the Inca archaeological site of Moray, this small restaurant and the surrounding communities are completely immersed in mountain ranges and lush, green land. It will take you about 1.5 hours to reach this spot from the city of Cusco.

5. El Diablo, Spain

Located in the centre of Timanfaya National Park, this gorgeous dining experience asks you to beat the heat. The food is cooked with the heat of the Montanas del Fuego volcano, which can reach up to 750°F, or 400°C.

6. La Mesita De Almanza, Argentina

Featuring a selection of homemade meals, this restaurant is located off a main highway on Argentina’s Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. The best part is the stunning mountainous views of a smaller island known as Isla Gable, as well as Chile’s Isla Navarino.

7. Little A’Le’Inn, United States

Located along the Extraterrestrial Highway in Alamo, Nevada, this combination restaurant and lodging space is all about aliens. The food is said to be delicious, while the sleeping accommodations were comfortable, albeit basic.

8. Refuge Du Plan De L’Aiguille, France

This picturesque restaurant is located in the town of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, sitting at a height of 2,207 meters (7241 feet). Considered a stopping point before climbing the Aiguille du Midi or hitting the ski slopes, this mountainside hut is warm and offers a selection of homemade food, pastries, and coffee or tea.

9. The Irish Pub, Nepal

You’ll definitely deserve some hot food after trekking to this joint. This Irish Pub is located in the small town of Namche Bazar, 3,450 meters (11,319 ft) above sea level, and requires a two-day trek to reach it. The food features a blend of traditional pub fare and local Himalayan ingredients.

10. Fogo Island Inn, Canada

Fogo Island Inn is located on the north-eastern side of Newfoundland. It was built as a part of the Shorefast initiative, a charity that hopes to provide community development through philanthropy, so all the money spent at the inn goes back into the island, Newfoundland and Canada. Not to mention, the main food comes from the Labrador Current, so you know it’ll be extra delicious.

11. Fangweng, China

This restaurant is located on the side of a cliff in the Yichang Province of China. To access this restaurant, you have to hike through a corridor and across a wooden platform at some pretty staggering heights. Luckily, you’ll be treated to some amazing food at the end.

12. Pizza Pi, U.S. Virgin Islands

While we could say this top-rated restaurant is located in the Virgin Islands, it might be more accurate to say it’s located beside the Virgin Islands. Pizza Pi is a boat restaurant that often floats around Christmas Cove, offering delicious food and drinks to passersby.

13. The Three Chimneys, United Kingdom

This 5-star restaurant is located on the shores of Loch Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. It’s well-loved for its high-quality shellfish, seafood, and the rich history in which the restaurant sits. All produce is also locally sourced, so you know you’re getting the freshest food possible.

14. Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Maldives

What can be more remote than 5 meters under the ocean waves? This intimate, highly sought-after restaurant can only seat 14 guests per service. You don’t even need your phone, as you’ll be transfixed on the fish, sharks, and other sea life that’s swimming around above you.

15. Café i Fårhus, Sweden

Have you ever wanted to eat your food in a barn? Maybe not, but you’ll want to after looking into  Café i Fårhus. This quaint restaurant is located inside a sheep house, where you can also enjoy seeing pigs, cows, chickens, cats, and rabbits. It’s a family-friendly event with excellent food and even better hot chocolate.

16. Locanda Del Pilone, Italy

This mountaintop restaurant looks down over the Langhe region of  Italy. It's a Michelin-star restaurant that combines local products, flavors, and wines from the Langhe region, making this stay a wonderful experience from head to toe.

17. Under, Norway

Dipping into the Atlantic coast in Lindesness, this statement of brutalist architecture also prominently features aquatic life. While sunlight still streams from the above-ground front door, you can happily get lost in the aquamarine tide and enjoy some excellent food to boot.

This unique dining experience takes you 12 meters up into the Koh Kood rainforest, where you’ll get a gorgeous view of the Gulf of Thailand. You and your family will enjoy a delicious menu up in the treetops, which is brought to you via zipline.

19. Schilthorn Piz Gloria, Switzerland

This restaurant is located 2,970 meters (9744 ft) above sea level, where you’ll receive panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountain ranges. The restaurant within this summit spot also rotates, so you can enjoy your views and an excellent regional meal all in one.

20. REM Eiland, Netherlands

This three-floored restaurant is located in Amsterdam and features a bar as well as a rooftop patio area. The restaurant has a 7-course meal, but doesn’t overdo it on the fanciness. You can have a full night out all in one spot if you get the opportunity to visit REM.
