He may live in a pineapple under the sea, but SpongeBob is more than just the goofy little guy who inspired countless memes and a whole cult following—he’s the creator of incredible recipes that we couldn’t wait to make ourselves! Alright, yes, some of them sounded a little gross (there’s no way we were making sundaes with onions, ketchup, and peanuts), but a lot of them got our mouths watering, and that’s why we’ve broken down some of the best recreations for your next watch party.
Krabby Patty
If we’re going to make anything, we have to start with Krabby Patties. On the surface, most replica recipes look like your everyday burger, but what makes it so special is that it’s a completely versatile recipe. You have your staples like lean ground beef, onion, and cheddar cheese slices, but you also have pickle slices and even Old Bay seasoning if you want to kick it up a notch.
Funnily enough, it took forever for us to score the official recipe, but Nickelodeon actually released one—and it called for imitation crab. To say we were vindicated is an understatement, and it also provided another route for our creativity. With a little chopped onion and celery, some imitation crab, and seasoned breadcrumbs, we had a fish patty straight out of Krusty Krab.
Air-Fried Pickles
Speaking of pickles, we couldn’t forget the most important ingredient of our burgers! (Heck, SpongeBob had a whole identity crisis after he forgot.) While yes, you could slice ‘em up and serve, we prefer our pickles with a little crunch. The only way to score that crispy exterior is with your trusty air fryer.
You can stick with the basics, like dill pickle spears and panko breadcrumbs, or you could use your own blend of seasonings, like garlic, salt and pepper, and maybe even a pinch of cayenne. Don’t forget the ranch for dipping, though we also like Chipotle!
Barbecue Nuts
We’re not talking about acorns with this one—we’re talking about a hearty blend of BBQ nuts that work for any guest! We like to mix our nuts, so this recipe includes everything from pecans and peanuts to walnuts and almonds, and all of them work great with a little coating of garlic, smoked paprika, and a pinch of cayenne.
You’ll also need an egg white whisked until frothy, as you’ll need to toss your nuts inside and coat them before sprinkling with your favorite spices. Then, just pop ‘em in the oven and you’ll have a tasty roasted snack in under 30 minutes.
Kelp Shake
Okay, we know what you’re thinking—don’t worry, this recipe doesn’t call for blended seaweed…or radioactive ingredients. It does, however, encourage a blend of healthy greens, like spinach, apples, and avocado. You can also toss in your classic liquids, like coconut water or soy milk, and toss in a few ice cubes to thicken up the whole thing.
However you choose to make it, it’ll look the same as the Kelp Shake, and you won’t have fuzzy skin afterward. So, it’s a win-win!
Three-Day Potato Salad
If you have a potato salad recipe kicking around at home, you have everything you need for a SpongeBob-themed side dish! Though yours probably won’t take three days to make, feel free to throw caution to the wind by adding roasted potatoes instead of boiled ones, or kicking up the heat with horseradish.
If you really want flavor, you can always add bacon drippings or dill pickle brine to get people excited. You can also add a pinch of heat with Cajun seasoning, Creole mustard, or even hot sauce.
Who said you need cooking channels to whip up the best dishes? As SpongeBob said, "We don't need television, not as long as we have our imagination!"
