Beaver Nuggets and Beyond

Gas stations are meant for quick pit stops and filling up your car's tank, but Buc-ee's is an entirely different story. You can't help but stop at their location on your way to or from a road trip in order to grab some snacks, sweets, and other bizarre treats. With that in mind, here are some of the best and worst things available at Buc-ee's.

1. Beaver Nuggets

The best food at Buc-ee's is without question the original Beaver Nuggets. These little puffed corn snacks are coated in caramel and are so sweet, slightly salty, and overall just plain addicting. They are the absolute perfect snack for a road trip, come in huge bags, and the flavor is unbeatable.

2. Banana Pudding

The only thing better than Buc-ee's Banana Pudding is having the whole thing to yourself. Made with layers of banana, vanilla cookies, and sweet whipped cream, this creamy concoction is a taste of grandma's kitchen. This popular treat is sold in small and large cups and is definitely one to savor.

3. Raspberry Yogurt Pretzels

The Raspberry Yogurt-Covered Pretzels are one of the best things to eat at Buc-ee's. These sweet, salty, and slightly tart snacks are hard to beat. One of Buc-ee's better sweet snacks, and a big bag to share, or not.

4. Cherry Maple Jerky

The Cherry Maple Beef Jerky is one of the tastiest things to eat at Buc-ee's. Made with soft jerky that easily rips, it has a perfect blend of maple sweetness and cherry tartness. Rich, bold, and complex, it tastes like a treat even though it is a savory snack.

5. Cinnamon Roll

The Cinnamon Roll from Buc-ee's is a classic that everyone must try. It is soft and gooey, full of cinnamon flavor, and topped with a massive blanket of cream cheese icing. It's large enough to share with a friend, or if you're like me, it's perfect to hog all to yourself.

6. Blazin' Crunch Trail Mix

A great thing to order at Buc-ee's is the Trail Blazin' Crunch trail mix. Loaded with spicy peanuts, chili lemon corn nuggets, and Cajun corn sticks, this crunchy snack packs a big punch that everyone will love. Delicious and low-cost, this spicy treat is just what you're looking for if you're a fan of zesty foods.

7. Chocolate Pecan Fudge

One of our favorite things to eat at Buc-ee’s is Chocolate Pecan Fudge. It’s creamy, soft, and has the most delicious crunch of pecans. It’s a simple snack that pairs decadent chocolate with a nutty, peanut butter flavor. You can buy individual squares, or if you’re really hungry, get it by the pound!

8. Glazed Almonds

There’s a reason that the Fresh Glazed Almonds at Buc-ee’s are a best seller. The almonds are coated in a sweet, cinnamon-infused glaze. The result is the ideal combination of crunchy and full of flavor, and they’re even better warm.

9. Cinnamon Chip Muffin

One of our favorite things to eat at Buc-ee's is their Cinnamon Chip Muffin. Light and fluffy with sweet cinnamon chips throughout, and topped with a crunchy cinnamon streusel, the texture of this muffin is out of this world. This muffin is delicious for breakfast, as a snack, or as a dessert.

10. Dark Chocolate Cookies and Cream Overbite Bar

This popular snack packs a whole lot of flavor in one convenient package. The Overbite Chocolate Bar is shaped like a disc and stamped with the trademark beaver mascot. It comes with fillings like peanut butter, caramel, or cookies and cream.

Now that we’ve talked about some of the best snacks at Buc-ee's, here are 10 to avoid.

1. Sausage on a Stick

One of the worst things to eat at Buc-ee's is their Sausage on a Stick. The flimsy flour tortilla wrapper doesn't enhance the large sausage, it's just bulky to eat. Plus, for close to $7, it's a gimmick snack.

2. Chicken Salad

Although chicken salad is a delicious and hearty snack to keep you going on the road, Buc-ee’s chicken salad is not worth it. It does not live up to the standards of their other food items and does not have the good quality and flavor that a traditional chicken salad should have.

3. Cosmic Pops

Buc-ee's Cosmic Pops are hands down one of the most disappointing treats at Buc-ee's. The so-called Cosmic Pops don't deliver in the popping candy department like other hard candies do, so much so that they only barely pop. If they do, it's more of a nuisance than a satisfying candy crunch.

4. Lemon Crisps

Lemon Crisps are one of Buc-ee’s most regrettable snack purchases. These little cookies are unnecessarily bitter and sour with an off-putting cheap, artificial aftertaste. The texture is somewhere between not-crunchy and not-soft.

5. Tater Tots

Among the worst options on Buc-ee’s menu are the Beaver Tots. These tater tots are disappointingly salty and not very exciting. Buc-ee’s has set the bar high with its other snacks, and these just don’t measure up. Don’t be fooled by their cute name, they’re just basic frozen tots that have been liberally salted.

6. Bacon, Egg, and Cheese

Arguably the worst thing to eat at Buc-ee's is the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit. Covered in grease and prone to falling apart, the biscuit dominates the sandwich and is cumbersome to eat on the go. Paired with a meager portion of bacon and hyper-processed cheese that refuses to melt, it's a sad and messy breakfast.

7. Boudin Kolache

One of the worst foods that you can get at Buc-ee's is the boudin. Boudin is Cajun sausage at its best, and Buc-ee's just does not do it justice. If you do not know, boudin is a stuffed pork sausage, but this is just a very poor substitute for the real deal.

8. Chili Limón Pork Rinds

Something flavored with Chili Limón is one of the worst things to eat at Buc-ee's. The spicy and tangy combination is good in small doses, but Buc-ee's overuses it to the point where it becomes overpowering and off-putting. The strong seasoning takes over and overshadows any enjoyment of the actual snack.

9. Ghost Pepper Jerky

One of the worst things to eat at Buc-ee's is the Ghost Pepper Jerky. Just packed with inhuman spice, it's difficult to enjoy without a cold beverage within reach, making it more punishing than flavorful. While other Buc-ee's jerky offerings could use more spice, this one has none.

10. Buc-ee Salad

The toppings and dressing are decent, but the chicken is dry and flavorless, and the lettuce is always old and wilted. No matter how good the add-ons are, a salad with crappy greens is a losing proposition every time.
