The 10 Worst Dishes From Swiss Chalet & 10 To Get Every Time

The 10 Worst Dishes From Swiss Chalet & 10 To Get Every Time

Not Every Chalet Order is a Classic

Swiss Chalet has built its reputation on rotisserie birds and that famously divisive dipping sauce, but the menu now stretches far beyond your beloved quarter-chicken dinner. Some newer dishes pile on too many toppings, while others simply don’t showcase what the chain does best. With a rapidly expanding menu, what’s even worth the money anymore? Well, don’t you worry—we’re here to break down which items you should ditch, and which well-loved staples you should always reach for.

1. Vegetable Teriyaki Stir Fry

Ordering a vegetable stir fry from a rotisserie chicken joint already feels like a gamble, and it is. Swiss Chalet serves sautéed peppers, red onions, and carrots in teriyaki sauce over seasoned rice, but the combination is more like a basic food-court meal than a specialty. Unless you’re avoiding meat, there are far more memorable reasons to visit the Chalet.

2. Rotisserie Chicken Club Wrap

As much as we love a good wrap, this one just doesn’t do it for us. With a combination of chicken, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and Garlic Mesquite mayo, it’s actually served chilled. That means cold rotisserie chicken, which can lose much of the tenderness and savory appeal that make the chain’s signature dinners worthwhile.

3. Vegetable Quesadilla

Sweet potatoes, Cajun seasoning, cheese, and green onions sure sound good on paper, but in reality, they make this unusually crowded. The sweet potato filling overwhelms the other ingredients, particularly once you add sour cream and salsa. It’s different, yes, but different doesn’t mean it belongs among your regular Swiss Chalet orders.

4. Chalet Sauce Poutine

If you love the Chalet sauce, poutine sounds like the ultimate Canadian staple. But don’t get swindled so quickly! That sauce already divides customers with its tomato, herb, and spice flavors, so pouring it over fries and cheese curds makes it even harder to ignore. Even if you’re a diehard fan, just stick with the homestyle gravy version.

5. Four Cheese Spinach Dip

Swiss Chalet’s Four Cheese Spinach Dip combines spinach and artichoke with such a rich cheese blend that the vegetables barely register. Though it arrives warm with plenty of pita, the thick filling gets way too heavy after only a few bites, especially when it’s followed by a full chicken dinner. Not to mention, at 310 calories per serving, this shareable starter is a serious commitment before the main even appears.

6. Rotisserie Chicken on a Bun

With this one, you have hot rotisserie chicken on a toasted bun. Sounds simple enough—which is exactly its problem. It leaves most of the excitement to the accompanying Chalet Sauce. There’s no cheese, bacon, or notable spread to give the sandwich any other flavor. It’s good for picky eaters, but everyone else is just wondering why they didn’t order the full chicken dinner.

7. Full Rack BBQ Back Ribs

A full rack sounds impressive until you consider just how heavy the meal actually is. Depending on the sauce and side, Swiss Chalet itself lists the dish at up to 1,780 calories before you’ve made any upgrades. We hope you brought a good appetite and plenty of wet naps because this isn’t worth it otherwise.

8. Chicken Greek Salad

Oh, you thought the ribs were bad? Would you be surprised to hear that lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, and chicken produce nearly the same number? We’re talking 1,160 to 1,190 calories, which sort of negates the idea of a lighter option. With that much richness packed into a salad, you might as well grab a more openly indulgent meal.

9. Loaded Perogies

Swiss Chalet tops its cheese-and-potato perogies with sour cream, bacon, cheese sauce, and green onions. On any other day, we’d dig in, but all those rich toppings actually bury the perogies themselves, leaving the plate mostly filled with salt and dairy. The chain has way better starters, so it’s safer to ignore this one.

10. Chicken Fiesta Salad

The Chicken Fiesta Salad has a lot of goodies in one bowl: avocado, beans, corn, tomatoes, onions, cheese, tortilla strips—you name it. However, with so many ingredients, the dish isn’t exactly comfort food. If anything, it’s unfocused rather than fresh, especially at over 1,000 calories.

With some of the no-nos out of the way, we can finally dig into which 10 dishes give you a good reason to keep the Chalet in your regular rotation.

1. Quarter Chicken Dinner

There’s a reason the Quarter Chicken Dinner has remained the defining order since the ‘50s! You get a slow-roasted chicken leg with a dinner roll, your choice of side, and the sauce that regulars expect. The dark meat is mouthwatering and tender, too, and a hearty potato side also lets you customize the plate without complicating it.

2. Chicken and Third Rack Combo

Struggling to choose between chicken and ribs? No problem! Settle the matter with the Chicken and Third Rack Combo. It pairs a quarter of rotisserie chicken with four BBQ back ribs basted in Apple Butter BBQ, Smoky BBQ, or Honey Garlic sauce. You then score coleslaw, a dinner roll, Chalet Sauce, and a side. It’s the best of all worlds.

3. Festive Special®

Alright, we know this only happens once a year, but that’s what makes the Festive Special®…well, special! It turns its familiar Quarter Chicken Dinner into one of the chain’s most anticipated seasonal meals. Along with rotisserie chicken, Chalet Sauce, a dinner roll, and a side, you can also get your fill with stuffing, cranberry sauce, and LINDOR chocolate truffles. There’s really nothing else you need during Christmastime.

4. Garlic Cheese Loaf

The garlic cheese loaf knows exactly what an appetizer should accomplish. You get warm bread with plenty of garlic flavor and melted cheese, which is already tasty enough, but it’s also easy to share. It’s especially good for dipping into leftover Chalet Sauce or gravy, although finishing the entire loaf before dinner is dangerously easy.

5. Chicken Pot Pie

Few chain-restaurant pot pies feel as closely connected to the rest of the menu as Swiss Chalet’s version. Rotisserie chicken, vegetables, and creamy filling beneath a flaky pastry crust? Now we’re talking.

6. Cheese Perogies

Golden cheese-and-potato perogies are already easy to love, but Swiss Chalet wisely keeps this version straightforward. They’re served with Cajun sour cream, which adds a little kick without overpowering every bite. As a starter, these perogies also bring plenty of flavor while leaving room for your main.

7. Chicken Spring Rolls

You’re seriously missing out on Swiss Chalet’s spring rolls! Each crispy roll obviously has rotisserie chicken, but they’re also packed with bell peppers and served with a tangy plum sauce that adds just enough sweetness. They’re easy to share, tidy to eat, and well suited to anyone who wants a smaller bite before the main course.

8. Double Leg Dinner

There’s no shame in wanting a little more meat on your plate, which is where this guy comes in. Two slow-roasted legs provide plenty of juicy dark meat, accompanied by the sauce, a dinner roll, and whichever side suits your appetite. It’s generous without stuffing your plate with unrelated ingredients, which makes it one of the most dependable meals you can get.

9. Chalet Chicken Soup

Chicken soup may not be the flashiest order, but it’s one of the most consistently comforting choices. What more could you want other than chicken, vegetables, and noodles in a savory broth? Swiss Chalet also somehow managed to make it their own rather than an everyday option you can get anywhere.

10. Toffee Cheesecake

That’s right—it’s time for dessert! The creamy cheesecake base and sweet toffee flavor carry just enough delicious flavor to hit your sweet tooth without filling you to the brim. Swiss Chalet carries several pies and cheesecakes, but this newer dessert has more personality than the usual stuff.
