10 Signs You Have a Childish Palate & 10 You Have A Great One

10 Signs You Have a Childish Palate & 10 You Have A Great One

Do You Actually Appreciate Food?

Everyone has their own food preferences, but there's a difference between knowing what you enjoy and refusing to venture beyond the same five meals you've eaten since childhood. Some people are perfectly happy with plain pasta, chicken nuggets, and a familiar fast-food order, while others get excited about trying unusual ingredients, unfamiliar cuisines, and complicated flavor combinations. Neither approach means you have to enjoy everything you taste, but your willingness to explore different foods can say quite a bit about your palate.

1. You Refuse to Eat Anything With Visible Vegetables

You have no appetite for vegetables. If you take all the onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes out of your food, your taste buds probably aren't that great. There's nothing wrong with having preferences, but refusing to try vegetables prepared in different ways can seriously limit your dining options.

2. You Think Black Pepper Is Too Spicy

Not everyone can handle spicy food, but if you can't stand the slight spiciness of black pepper or a seasoning, then your tastes may not have expanded too much. Black pepper, garlic, and even paprika should not make you crave water. Spice does not have to make your food spicy.

3. You Order Chicken Tenders at Almost Every Restaurant

Chicken tenders are amazing, and no one is saying you have to stop eating them. But if you go to an Italian restaurant and look for chicken tenders, the same thing happens at Mexican restaurants or maybe even a seafood restaurant. It's okay to play it safe, but why go to these types of restaurants and order children's meals?

4. You Don't Like Food That Looks Different From What You're Used To

We all look at our food before eating it. If you have a limited palate, you might turn your nose up at something because it doesn't look right. Maybe the sauce looks off or it has certain vegetables on it. Just one bite may help you understand why it's good.

5. You Need Everything Covered in Cheese or Ketchup

Cheese and ketchup can go on a lot of foods, but if you rely on those two condiments for all of your meals, you probably don't have the best palate. If you don't enjoy your vegetables unless they are drenched in cheese, you may want to try preparing them differently.

Not everyone is going to enjoy these kinds of foods, but it's nice to remember that they may taste better than they smell.

Seafood can be an acquired taste, particularly if your childhood meals rarely included anything beyond frozen fish sticks. Fish can be an acquired taste, but there are so many kinds that taste amazing. If you believe that all seafood is terrible, you are wrong.

Rather than sticking with the same familiar meals, you see trying new food as one of the most enjoyable ways to experience different cultures and traditions.
