Comfort food has always been about warmth, nostalgia, and the kind of meals that remind people of home. But not every classic stays on the dinner table forever. In this video, we’re looking at 20 comfort foods no one eats anymore, or at least not nearly as often as they used to. These are the dishes that once filled kitchens, school cafeterias, diners, holiday tables, and family gatherings, but have slowly faded as tastes changed and newer favorites took over. We’ll cover old-school comfort foods like tuna noodle casserole, Salisbury steak, Jell-O salad, liver and onions, creamed chipped beef on toast, TV dinners, meatloaf with ketchup glaze, mincemeat, fluffernutter sandwiches, Chicken à la King, Hoppin’ John, beaver tails, rice pudding from scratch, Sloppy Joes, beans and franks, creamed spinach, eel pie, ambrosia salad, banana and mayo sandwiches, and turtle stew. Some of these meals were popular because they were cheap, filling, and easy to make. Others came from regional traditions, Depression-era cooking, wartime habits, old-fashioned holiday menus, or a time when creamy casseroles and canned ingredients ruled the kitchen. A few still have loyal fans, but many now feel more like memories than regular meals. Whether these foods make you nostalgic or make you glad food trends moved on, they all tell a story about how people used to eat and what comfort once meant. Which forgotten comfort food do you miss the most? Which one should never make a comeback?
