The 10 Worst Menu Items From Tim Hortons & 10 Worth Your Money

The 10 Worst Menu Items From Tim Hortons & 10 Worth Your Money

It’s Time for Tims

As a Canadian staple, Tim Hortons has brought coffee and donuts to hungry customers for decades. They’ve enjoyed everything from classic chocolate-dipped donuts to more experimental foods like bread bowls and flatbread pizzas. However, not every menu item scored well with Northeners, and we’re here to break down which items are worth the cost and which ones never stood a chance.

1. Chili

Who doesn’t love a good bowl of chili on a cold day? Well, you may want to rethink ordering it from Tim Hortons; this classic comfort food never sat right with our stomachs, sending us to the toilet more often than not. You wouldn’t think tomatoes, kidney beans, and vegetables would be so offensive, but lo and behold…

2. Steak and Cheese Panini

Tim Hortons should probably just stick with simple donuts. Every time they tried to venture into actual food, we were left with mystery meat and flimsy pizzas that simply weren’t worth the money. The steak and cheese panini was no different—red onions, steak, and mozzarella didn’t really hit the spot, and this one thankfully got pulled from menus.

3. Omelette Bites

Omelette bites seem like a good, simple breakfast! On the surface, you have a low-calorie option rich in protein and flavor that gets you through the morning. However, the Timmies bites are rubbery and stuffed with bacon (or cheese), which isn’t the best match for our morning coffee.

4. Hashbrowns

We don’t know about you, but we think the hashbrowns have gone downhill. What was once a crispy golden outside with fluffy potato inside is now an expensive, crunchy disappointment. We’re not looking to spend almost three dollars on a few lackluster bites!

5. Coffee

It’s always a shame when coffee places don’t have good coffee. Sure enough, Tim Hortons doesn’t really boast the best beans. Those morning cups of joe taste synthetic, and the dark roast is only slightly better. To make matters worse, they’ve branched out into lattes and iced drinks, but those aren’t great either.

6. Simply Sausage Sandwich

It’s never a good idea to scarf down a biscuit first thing in the morning, but it’s worse at Timmies! Those buttermilk biscuits throw off the whole ratio, leaving you with too much bread for the piddly sausage patty you get. Even worse, that added cheese slice doesn’t help very much.

7. Oreo Ice Capp

Some people swear by the Oreo iced capp, but we’re with the nay-sayers! What seemed like a good idea on paper was more of a poorly executed beverage topped with their so-called whipped cream and loaded with calories. It’s another case of Timmies biting off more than they could chew, especially with a non-dairy topping.

8. Chocolate Chip Muffin

Okay, we know that muffins are basically little cakes—hardly a wise breakfast option! However, we can’t help sinking our teeth into this classic pastry…when it’s not from Tim Hortons. This muffin suffers the same fate as Tim’s coffee: a synthetic flavor. Crystallized sugar on top actually makes it worse, not better.

9. Pizza

How could we turn our back on flatbread pizzas? A delicious garlic base topped with pepperoni or bacon? Sure, that sounds good, but this is Tim Hortons we’re talking about! While they aren’t the worst thing in the world, they’re certainly not worth the eight bucks.

10. Frozen Quenchers

There’s nothing worse than phony whipped cream, but Tim Hortons refuses to stop using it on its drinks. Call us crazy, but we’re not fans of peach or strawberry topped with sugar and vegetable oil. This never quenched our thirst at all!

For all the misses, Tim Hortons does manage to get a few menu items right. We hope you’re hungry because here are some of the best items you can grab off the board.

1. Potato Wedges

Say what you want about Timmies’ food—their potato wedges are surprisingly good. They’re what the hashbrowns used to be: crispy and golden on the outside with plenty of potato inside. They’re also seasoned with a mild medley of onion, garlic, and paprika, which makes them a delicious add-on.

2. Turkey Bacon Club

While we’re not huge on their steak sandwiches, Tim Hortons’ turkey club manages to hit the spot. You get turkey, applewood bacon, tomato, and lettuce slapped between a fresh bun and slathered with a modest amount of mayo. For what it is, you can’t really beat it.

3. Bagel BELT

We always enjoyed the BLTs from Timmies (so long as they gave you enough bacon). However, the BELT added a nice egg patty between your sesame seeds, giving an added protein boost to hungry customers. It doesn’t detract from the original, but it does leave you fuller for longer, and still carries the same flavor.

4. Farmer’s Breakfast Wrap

Sausage, cheese, and hashbrown all loaded in a grilled tortilla? Plus the Chipotle sauce? Yeah, this thing is…not great for your heart. That said, we can’t ignore its calling whenever we order! It’s savory, it’s delicious, and it's the only way we can still enjoy those hashbrowns. File:Tim Hortons, Calgary, Alberta province, Canada 🍁 April 2022 - 02.jpgSharon Hahn Darlin on Wikimedia

5. Cinnamon Raisin Bagel

Not every Timmies bagel is made equally, and though you can order the sesame seed or plain varieties, where’s the fun in that? For all their boring options, the cinnamon raisin bagel will always hold a place in our hearts. Far be it from us to vouch for anything with raisins in it, but this sweet treat works well with a little butter.

6. Smile Cookies

Yes, we know that smile cookies are just regular chocolate chip cookies with frosting—but that somehow makes it better! Not only do the proceeds go to a good cause, but those mangled pink and blue smiles are worth every dollar.

7. Donuts

Timmies’ donuts are sort of like their bagels; they won’t all be good, but the ones that are really hit home. You can’t go wrong with the classic chocolate or maple-dipped varieties, though some customers love the old-fashioned plain to dip in their coffee. Their apple fritters aren’t half bad, either!

8. Hot Chocolate

It doesn’t matter who you are—you can’t really mess up hot chocolate. Thankfully, Tims doesn’t, and we still treat ourselves to this nostalgic cup every winter. They have a few loaded options, which we’re not exactly fans of, but the plain ol’ chocolate hits the spot every time.

9. Timbits

You may know them as donut holes, but Canadians only have one word for ‘em: timbits! If you aren’t in the mood for a whole donut, you can easily grab a couple of little guys to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can’t score every donut flavor in a Timbit, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less tasty.

10. Scrambled Egg Loaded Wrap

What’s the difference between a loaded wrap and the farmer’s breakfast, you ask? Honestly, it’s the eggs. People have griped about Tims’ egg quality for years, but the new wrap has freshly cracked eggs alongside sausage, cheese, and hashbrowns. (Yes, it’s way better than the original eggs.) If you really want to kick it up a notch, you can even score a maple brown butter version.
