The 10 Weirdest FoodTok Trends & 10 That Are Actually Amazing
Which Of These TikTok Food Trends Would You Try?
TikTok is full of people doing weird things with food. Some of the "recipes" posted are clearly just meant to create a stir, get views, and go viral (toilet bowl punch, anyone?) However, others actually seem not just appetizing, but amazing. Here are 10 of the weirdest TikTok food trends and 10 genius ones we'd enjoy eating.
1. Ice Cream Fruit Roll-Ups
In 2023, one TikToker went viral for rolling a few scoops of ice cream into a fruit roll-up. It was one of the most-tried trends on TikTok, and while some people loved it, it sounds like a sugar bomb that we wouldn't go for.
2. Chamoy Pickle Kit
This trend combines pickles with chamoy (a sweet and spicy Mexican condiment), some kind of sour candy, Takis, and other toppings of your choosing. It sounds like a flavor bomb in all the wrong ways.

3. Natto Tasting
We've seen so many people taste this Japanese fermented bean dish that we don't feel we have to. Given how many people can't eat it without gagging, it's fair to say it's an acquired taste.
4. Egg Coffee
Don't be alarmed when your coffee date puts an egg in their Americano (including the shell): it's just a TikTok trend. Apparently, the egg white and yolk clarify the coffee and the shell reduces its acidity, resulting in a creamy and smooth cup of joe, that is if you don't mind the risk of Salmonella.

5. Kool-Aid Pickles
When will people on TikTok stop doing things to pickles? The latest absurdity is soaking them in Kool-Aid which apparently makes them sweet, sour, tangy, and the color of a highlighter.

6. Toilet Bowl Punch
Someone on TikTok actually made a party punch in a toilet bowl. If the shock factor was what they were going for, it worked! The video went viral, and unfortunately, several more people started doing it.
7. Girl Dinner
Girl dinner was one of the more controversial, albeit relatable, food trends to go viral on TikTok recently. It wasn't one particular food or dish, but any lazy dinner such as bread, butter, and grapes or just a bowl of popcorn and a glass of wine. It's been slammed for labeling meals that lack nutritional value as "girly."
8. Cloud Bread
Cloud bread is all the rage thanks to TikTok. It's a gluten-free bread made from eggs, a little cream cheese, and cream of tartar. It's as light as air and unfortunately, tastes like air too.
9. Mustard on Watermelon
In what's a super puzzling TikTok trend, people are slathering their watermelon with mustard, taking away all the refreshing goodness that makes the fruit so beloved. Sure, watermelon can be good in savory applications, paired with tomatoes, or feta cheese, but this?
10. Butter Boards
Butter boards are basically cheese boards but with softened butter placed artfully on a piece of wood and served with some good quality bread. It's a nice enough idea, but the thing about replacing cheese with butter is that we would always prefer cheese.
Now that we've gone over some of the most puzzling trends to come out of TikTok recently, let's talk about the ones that slap.
1. Pizza Fries
The strangest thing about this trend is that no one thought of it sooner. It's two of everyone's most beloved junk foods combined into one super greasy dish. Just place frozen fries in a single layer in the oven at the same time as mozzarella cheese and pepperoni, then slide the melty pizza toppings onto the cooked fries.
2. Potato Chip Omelette
TikTok doesn't really deserve the credit for this dish which has its origins in the TV series The Bear. However, it was re-created on TikTok and became even more of a sensation. Eggs, Boursin cheese, and crushed sour cream and onion potato chips come together in what we can only imagine is a heavenly breakfast dish.
3. Smash Burger Tacos
How can you go wrong combining the deliciousness of a smash burger with the awesomeness of a taco? Make it by placing a ball of ground beef on a hot skillet, pressing it down with a spatula, and topping it with a tortilla, flipping after a few minutes. It's no wonder this went viral.
4. Grinder Sandwich
The grinder sandwich is all the goodness of a classic Italian sub: a hoagie filled with deli meats, cheese, condiments, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers, except all those delicious ingredients get chopped up. This makes for a much nicer eating experience where you're sure to get every flavor in each bite.
5. McDonald’s Hash Brown Ice Cream Sandwich
Sandwich vanilla soft serve between two McDonald's hash browns to create this viral treat. It's indulgent, fatty, unhealthy, but don't tell us you wouldn't destroy it.

6. Upside Down Puff Pastry Tarts
After a TikTok user posted a video for upside-down nectarine tarts which got over 50 million views, the internet has been obsessed with creating upside-down fruit-based pastries. When the fruit is placed on the bottom, it gets deliciously caramelized in its juices, and the dessert is sophisticated without being complicated.

8. Frozen Yogurt Bars
There's been a big appetite for frozen treats on TikTok in the past few years. One notable one was this frozen yogurt bar which combined yogurt, chocolate chips, peanut butter, protein powder, and a chocolate shell.
9. Date Bark
TikTok was here to remind us how fabulous dates are for creating healthier versions of desserts. One user posted a viral video of her date bark which combined flattened dates, peanut butter, nuts, and chocolate and setting it in the freezer. People said it tasted like a Snickers bar.
10. Feta Eggs
You've heard of pesto eggs, but how about feta eggs? You make them by sprinkling feta cheese on a hot skillet and frying an egg on top. Some people serve it on a tortilla with avocado for what sounds like a perfect breakfast.
