10 Overlooked Burger King Menu Items & 10 You Should Ignore

BK's Original Chicken Sandwich Is An Underrated Classic

Burger King offers a big menu, but not every item is a home run. Most don't realize that it's actually quite uneven beyond the reliable Whopper and value pick items. There are a few hidden gems that are better than they get credit for, but there are lots of items that aren't worth your money. To help you out, here are 10 overlooked Burger King menu items and 10 you should ignore.

1. Whopper Jr.

The Whopper Jr. is often overshadowed by its larger version, which is why it's underrated. With the junior, you get all the elements of the Whopper that you love, like the flame-grilled patty, fresh toppings, and sesame bun, without all the calories. The Whopper Jr. also lets you indulge in fries and dessert with less guilt.

2. Double Cheeseburger

Burger King's Double Cheeseburger can outperform other menu items at a smaller cost. Two flame-grilled patties and extra cheese make it rich yet simple. It's technically a value item, but it feels more substantial, so you can feel full without paying for a Whopper.

3. Original Chicken Sandwich

This sandwich is a Burger King classic, yet it still doesn't get the respect of the Whopper or chicken sandwiches at rival fast food chains. It's a hot, soft chicken patty with shredded lettuce and mayo on a sesame bun.

4. Chicken Fries

Chicken Fries are a distinct BK menu item, but a lot of people skip them for something more traditional. Their thin shape creates a crispy surface, making them crunchier than nuggets.

5. Bacon King

This burger might look excessive, and that's a totally fair judgment. This one is about indulgence with two beef patties, crispy bacon, melted cheese, ketchup, and mayo. It creates a rich, satisfying bite even without any unnecessary toppings.

6. Impossible Whopper

Even carnivores love the Impossible Whopper. BK's classic flame-grilling gives this plant-based patty a smoky quality, and it's dressed like a Whopper, making it surprisingly close to the real thing.

7. Croissan'wich (Bacon or Sausage)

Burger King's Croissan'wich is one of the best fast-food breakfast items in the country. The buttery croissant pairs beautifully with the sausage patty or bacon strips to create a savory balance. The eggs are fluffy, and the cheese melts into the sandwich perfectly.

8. Chicken Nuggets

Burger King nuggets don't get a shred of hype thanks to McNuggets, and it's a shame. They're lightly breaded, way too easy to eat, and consistently delicious. They won't blow you away, but they make for a great meal when paired with the right sauce.

9. Onion Rings

BK's onion rings might be their most polarizing menu item.

When they're fresh, they're one of the best fast-food versions of this classic side. The slightly sweet batter contrasts exceptionally well with the salty Whopper.

10. Soft-Serve Cone

Often ignored thanks to McDonald's ice cream options, BK's soft serve is an excellent fast-food dessert. It's simple, creamy, and sweet without being sickly. It's also far less heavy than shakes or pies.

1. Plain Cheeseburger

The single cheeseburger is a bit thin and underwhelming. The patty doesn't have much presence, and the meat-to-bun ratio is a bit off.

2. French Toast Sticks

This item is popular with kids, but they are often dry and overly reliant on syrup for flavor. The texture can also be inconsistent, and they don't really taste like classic French toast. Go with a breakfast sandwich instead.

3. Basic Hash Browns

Burger King hash browns are serviceable at best. They're quite greasy, lightly seasoned, and don't have the crunch you want. With better breakfast options available, they feel like an afterthought and not the highlight of any breakfast.

4. Plain Fries

BK fries aren't bad, but there's a good reason why no one would pick them over McDonald's fries. They can be soft and lightly salted, but they rarely taste fresh and aren't as satisfying as the BK onion rings.

5. Ham, Egg & Cheese Biscuit

This breakfast sandwich is a bit dry and quite salty.

The biscuit can also be overpowering, and the ham is one-note. Compared to the croissant options, it feels heavier and far less enjoyable.

6. Small Value Nuggets

BK's small nuggets are overpriced and less satisfying than Chicken Fries. If you want nuggets, then just go for the large pack or choose a different main entirely. However, this can work if you want a small portion of Nuggers on the side of a Whopper.

7. Basic Milkshakes

Burger King is simply not known for its milkshakes. Its standard shakes are too sweet and don't have the classic thick milkshake texture. If you're having dessert at BK, you should opt for the soft-serve or pies, both of which will deliver better flavor.

8. Egg & Cheese Biscuit

This breakfast item without the meat doesn't deliver enough flavor and texture contrast. It's filling but kind of boring. You should only order this if you want the biscuit, as it dominates the sandwich. The balance of ingredients and flavor is off-putting.

9. Side Salad

The side salad is functional, but let's be honest, who wants to eat a side salad at Burger King? This crazy option offers a small serving with basic ingredients that most likely come from a bag. It's on the menu to give people a healthy option, but it really should get nixed.

10. Basic Soft Drink

With flavored lemonades and frozen drinks on the menu, a plain soda is a missed opportunity. It's fine in a generic sense, but it won't add anything to your meal.
